A two-piece antique bedroom set manufactured by Mercier Frères of Paris, consisting of a mahogany inlaid antique bed and beautiful matching wardrobe.
The bed has a mahogany frame with a burr walnut veneer. The headboard has an intricate arch of ormolu and diamond patterned veneer. This diamond pattern is translated to the panels of the footboard and wardrobe. Both pieces stand upon intricately turned legs with gilt mounts.
The wardrobe has the original Mercier Frères plaque on the back of the mirror and an ormolu arch above the door, similar to that on the headboard of the bed.
Mercier Frères furniture is renowned worldwide for quality in craftsmanship and excellence in design, and they have been very popular amongst the royalty and aristocracy from the 19th century onwards.
