Tips on How To Choose
Your Mattress and Bed Base

We spend a third of our lives in bed and so choosing a quality mattress, which suits our needs in terms of comfort feel, is most important - this enhances the quality of our sleep and general health.

In our showrooms at Chirk Mill we have 40 bedsteads assembled with a different combination of base and mattress on each, covering the wide range of comfort feels we offer. We recommend a visit to our showrooms where you can take the time to decide in our renowned relaxed atmosphere.

However, for those unable to visit, our experienced and knowledgable staff are here to talk you through the choices based on your requirements - either on the telephone or by e-mail.
These web pages are designed to be as informative as possible in order to guide you in your decision.

The combination of Bed Base and Mattress chosen provides that lasting comfort we are all seeking. Obviously, it is possible to purchase a bed base on its own, as you may already have your own mattress. Our mattresses can also be purchased individually.

We don't include bed bases in the prices of our beds because we like to offer the widest possible choice suitable both for you and the bedstead.

The choice of bed base - either FIRM or SPRUNG - is important in achieving the final comfort feel you are seeking. The depth of the base is variable so you can choose a total height (bedstead frame, bed base and mattress) suitable for the aesthetics of the bed and to suit your requirements.

Here are a few tips to help you with your choice:

The right mattress for you will be neither too soft nor too hard, as shown by the three diagrams. To help you determine which one is correct, try the hand test, whereby you insert your hand between the small of your back and the mattress. If the hand fits easily, with little resistance, but no major gaps, then the mattress is supporting your back correctly. Next, lie on your side to ensure that it is comfortable for your shoulders and hips, and that you are able to turn easily from one side to another.
In our showrooms, our relaxing and informal atmosphere enables you to take your time in making your choice. Whilst you lie there you can take advantage of our complementary coffee or tea.

If you cannot visit Chirk Mill and wish to purchase by E-Mail, Mail Order or Phone, our experienced staff will guide you through the selection to make the right choice. Many people purchase the whole bed successfully in this way.
